Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has officially secured the Accord Party’s governorship ticket for the 2026 election, cementing his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party after months of internal disputes.
Adeleke was confirmed as the party’s candidate on Wednesday after delegates from all 30 local government areas unanimously endorsed him during a primary held in Osogbo.
During his acceptance speech, Adeleke took aim at his political rivals, questioning their performance during their time in office and accusing them of leaving behind a weak legacy.
He said the opposition failed the state, failed their party and even failed themselves, adding that the people of Osun have now rejected them.
“In their days in power, they failed the people, they failed their party, they failed themselves. Today, even their own members are rising against them,” he said.
Adeleke maintained that he is entering the 2026 race with a solid record of governance.
“I am proud to run on the achievements of the last three years. Despite harassment and obstacles, my administration has outperformed and outshone the opposition. We raised the bar of governance beyond rhetoric and deceit.”
Highlighting key accomplishments, the governor said Osun State’s ranking in national examinations improved dramatically, moving from 33rd position under the previous administration to 7th under his leadership.
He also stated that his government had reduced the state’s infrastructure deficit by more than 40 percent between 2022 and 2025.
Adeleke added that the state had cleared over 40 percent of inherited debt, as confirmed by the Debt Management Office, and that Osun now ranks first in access to primary healthcare in the Southwest.
“Our performance has shown that governance can be real and that leadership can truly serve the people. I belong to the class of leaders who place the needs of citizens above everything else,” he said.
Looking ahead to the 2026 election, Adeleke revealed an upgraded five point agenda aimed at deepening development across the state.
The new agenda includes:
• Integrated citizens and workers welfare
• Infrastructure consolidation for economic growth
• Agro industrial expansion for youth empowerment
• Innovations in health, education and social care
• A strengthened business environment to promote job creation
The Secretary of the Electoral Committee, Abdulazeez Salaudeen, announced the results of the primary, confirming that Adeleke, who ran unopposed, received 145 valid votes, while five votes were invalidated.
“Having scored the highest number of votes, Senator Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke is hereby declared the winner of the primary,” Salaudeen said, adding that the process was monitored by candidate representatives and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
With his nomination sealed and a refreshed five point agenda on the table, Adeleke steps into the 2026 race with momentum. Osun voters will ultimately decide whether his record of governance and new political home in the Accord Party are enough to carry him to another victory.
