The June 29 floods in Accra were no joke. If you live in the capital, you know how serious the water levels got. Many people lost their belongings, but there is finally some good news for the military personnel and civilians affected.
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have stepped in to help. They teamed up to bring relief to 297 victims who were hit hard by the disaster.
What Relief Items Did They Get?
When disaster strikes, the basics matter most. NADMO and GAF didn’t just show up empty-handed. They brought essential items to make life a little easier for the affected staff and their families.
Here is a breakdown of the supplies they received:
- Bags of rice and cooking oil to keep the kitchens running.
- Blankets, students’ mattresses, and mosquito nets for a safe and warm sleep.
- Wash basins, buckets, and other everyday household items.
Why This Matters for the GAF Community
It’s easy to forget that the people who protect us also face everyday problems. The 297 victims include both military personnel and civilian employees of the GAF. Imagine having your home flooded while you are expected to be on duty!
This joint effort by GAF and NADMO shows true leadership and care. It reminds us that when things get tough, institutions are willing to support their own. The relief items will go a long way to help these families rebuild and settle back into their routines.
