Mahama Launches 24 Hour Economy Market During Central Region Development Tour

President John Dramani Mahama has launched construction of a new 24 Hour Economy Market at Assin Bereku as part of his administration’s efforts to boost economic activity, create jobs, and improve livelihoods in the Central Region.

The sod cutting ceremony formed part of the nationwide Resetting Ghana Tour, where the President engaged residents and outlined his government’s development agenda.

Joined by Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, President Mahama highlighted progress in infrastructure, healthcare, education, governance, and economic transformation while unveiling plans to accelerate development across the region.

At Assin Bereku, the President described the 24 Hour Economy Market as a major investment that will support local businesses, stimulate round the clock commercial activity, and create sustainable employment opportunities under the government’s flagship economic programme.

He said the project is expected to strengthen local trade by providing businesses with improved facilities while encouraging continuous economic activity that benefits traders, farmers, and consumers.

As part of the regional tour, President Mahama also inspected ongoing road construction projects aimed at improving transportation links and facilitating trade within the Central Region.

The President further inaugurated a new Community Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound to improve access to primary healthcare services. He also presented Free Primary Healthcare kits to strengthen healthcare delivery at the community level.

Promoting tourism was another key focus of the visit. President Mahama toured Cape Coast Castle, where he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to preserving Ghana’s historical heritage while expanding tourism as a driver of economic growth and job creation.

The Central Region leg of the Resetting Ghana Tour concluded with a Citizens’ Engagement Town Hall meeting in Apam. During the forum, the President accounted for his administration’s achievements, outlined future development priorities, and discussed plans to attract investment, create jobs, and improve living standards.

Residents used the interactive session to share concerns, ask questions, and offer suggestions on issues affecting their communities.

The government says the tour is intended to strengthen engagement between citizens and leadership while ensuring development projects respond to the needs of local communities across the country.

The launch of the 24 Hour Economy Market is expected to play an important role in expanding economic opportunities in the Central Region by supporting local enterprises, increasing commercial activity, and contributing to Ghana’s broader economic transformation agenda.
