Manchester City are reportedly closing in on the signing of Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo, with a fee of £65 million expected to be paid to trigger the player’s release clause. The Premier League champions are said to be planning a medical for the winger ahead of the deal, which must be completed by January 10.
According to sources, the move is likely to be finalized before Saturday, following Semenyo’s medical, which is scheduled after Bournemouth’s Premier League clash with Tottenham on Wednesday evening.
Despite interest from multiple top-flight clubs, including Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Tottenham, Manchester City appear to be the only side to have formally engaged with Bournemouth and taken negotiations to an advanced stage.
Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola offered a cautious update on Semenyo’s future ahead of the Spurs game, suggesting the player’s time at the club may be nearing its end.
“I think it could be the last game,” Iraola said. “That is my personal opinion, but there is nothing agreed and nothing signed. It is my understanding of the market and the noise around it, but right now there is nothing agreed. He is still our player and I hope it continues,” he added.
Semenyo has been in fine form this season, netting nine goals and providing three assists for Bournemouth in the Premier League. Since joining the south coast club from Bristol City in 2023 for a fee of over £10 million, the Ghanaian winger has emerged as one of the most exciting attacking talents in the league.
Manchester City’s interest signals their intent to bolster their frontline, and if the deal goes through, Semenyo would become one of the club’s most high-profile signings of the January transfer window.
