A new political party called the Action Alliance Party (AAP) has been officially launched with a bold promise to break the long-standing dominance of Ghana’s two major parties –
the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).The party was unveiled on Monday in Wa, where founder Mr Namuru Tahiru told supporters that Ghana deserves a fresh political alternative that truly puts ordinary citizens first.“AAP was born because our country needs a platform that focuses on the people,” he said.
The party is built on the principles of inclusivity, accountability, and genuine service, with a strong emphasis on youth empowerment, job creation, and the fight against corruption.Tahiru expressed confidence that AAP can “break the duopoly” in the 2028 general elections and bring real change to Ghana’s political landscape.“It is the Action Alliance Party that can seriously tackle corruption in this country. We are bold enough to prosecute corrupt officials and create jobs for our people,” he declared.
The party’s symbol – a tractor – reflects its strong focus on agriculture as the key to economic growth and employment. Tahiru said AAP will place farmers at the heart of its agenda, promising to improve irrigation systems, reduce the cost of farm inputs, and expand access to markets.
He urged party members to unite and mobilise aggressively across the country, while appealing to disillusioned Ghanaians from all political backgrounds to join the movement.“To those who feel disappointed with the current system, AAP welcomes you with open arms,”
he said. “Together, we will build a movement that goes beyond political divides and delivers real change.”The launch event also doubled as the party’s first national congress, during which executives were elected. Businessman Mr Nazir Abdul-Rahaman Darlington from the Upper East Region was chosen as National Chairperson.Mr Darlington echoed the party’s vision, saying AAP was created out of a deep desire to rescue Ghana from poor leadership, economic hardship, youth unemployment, and social injustice.
“Our party stands on three key principles: leadership must serve the people and not exploit them; every citizen deserves opportunity, dignity, and security; and the future of our nation depends on bold action today,” he stated.
The election of the executives was supervised by Mr Daniel Kwatia, the Upper West Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, with oaths of office and secrecy administered by Independent Commissioner of Oath, Mr Poleenaa Shaibu.
