The situation is totally under control,
Benin Republic President Patrice Talon said during a live national address, just hours after the attempted coup.
Speaking during a live national broadcast just hours after a group of soldiers appeared on state television claiming to have seized power, President Talon firmly dismissed their announcement, describing it as an isolated incident that was swiftly neutralized.
According to him, “the situation is totally under control,” and all key state institutions are functioning normally. He added that security agencies acted promptly to contain the unrest and maintain order across the country.
The President urged citizens to remain calm, avoid panic, and trust the government’s ongoing efforts to uphold peace and democracy. He also emphasized that those responsible for the attempted takeover will be held accountable under the law.
As the region continues to witness political instability in parts of West Africa, Talon’s reassurance aims to steady the nation and reaffirm Benin’s commitment to constitutional governance.
