The federal government has confirmed that the Super Eagles’ match bonuses at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations have now cleared the necessary regulatory stages.
The announcement comes after the team threatened to boycott training and delay their trip to Marrakech ahead of Saturday’s quarter-final showdown against Algeria if the Nigeria Football Federation did not release outstanding payments.
Nigeria is set to take on Algeria in Marrakesh, about five hours away from their current base in Fez, with the team scheduled to travel on Thursday.
Speaking on Thursday, the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, explained that the delay in payments was due to the process of converting the funds into foreign currency, which was the players’ preferred method. She reassured fans that the process has now been fast-tracked and that the final transfers to players’ domiciliary accounts are already underway.
“The Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria have streamlined the foreign exchange process to ensure our players are rewarded without further delay,” Uzoka-Anite said. “Going forward, the process will be fully optimized to allow faster and more predictable disbursements, in line with international best practices.”
Earlier, the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, confirmed that all financial entitlements for Super Eagles players and officials have been resolved.
