Tema Port: Customs Intercepts Arms and 610 Rounds of Ammunition

Officers from the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) have recorded a major security breakthrough at the Tema Port. Security personnel intercepted a dangerous stash of illegal arms and ammunition smuggled into the country under the false declaration of personal effects.

The seized weapons include one military-grade assault rifle, two sidearm pistols, and 610 live ammunition rounds hidden inside a cargo container. Port security teams discovered the items during physical examinations at the container terminal.

Customs examination officers discovered the weapons carefully hidden among ordinary household items and personal belongings. Importers routinely attempt using personal effect shipments to slip illegal goods past border protocols, but alert inspectors caught the discrepancy.

Security agencies immediately impounded the entire shipment to secure all physical evidence. Officials emphasize that smuggling military firearms poses severe threats to national security and public safety.
