Tyla has once again placed African music in the global spotlight after winning Best African Music Performance at the 68th Grammy Awards.
The South African singer claimed the award with her breakout track “Push 2 Start,” edging out some of the continent’s biggest names in what many described as one of the night’s most competitive categories.
Heavyweights including Davido, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, and Eddy Kenzo were all nominated, underlining the growing global recognition of African music at the Grammys. Davido earned a nod for “With You” featuring Omah Lay, Burna Boy was nominated for “Love,” while Ayra Starr and Wizkid received recognition for “Gimme Dat.” Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin completed the list with “Hope & Love.”
For Tyla, the win marks another defining moment in her fast-rising career. Still early in her journey, she continues to break barriers and expand the reach of African pop on the international stage.
The victory also confirms her status as a two-time Grammy winner, following her first win at the previous edition of the awards, and signals the arrival of a new era for African music globally.
