The ongoing environmental crisis in the capital city has created a major standoff between university officials and anxious students. While several public institutions are pausing operations due to the severe weather, the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) is taking an unyielding stance regarding its final-year academic requirements.
The administration has officially confirmed that the final project defense will proceed exactly as scheduled on Monday, June 29, 2026. This rigid policy directive means students must find a way to navigate the submerged streets of the capital or risk missing their graduation timelines entirely.
The central reason behind the university’s refusal to postpone the academic exercise comes down to pre-secured administrative resources. Management sources explain that the project defense timetable has already been completely finalized and approved by the academic board.
The department has secured all panel members, presentation venues, and external logistical arrangements well in advance. Academic heads maintain that any sudden postponement or change in timing would severely disrupt the broader school calendar, affect subsequent student groups, and create immense challenges in meeting strict departmental deadlines.
No Grounds for Rescheduling Final Year Presentations
Because the university believes there are currently no valid grounds for rescheduling, the directive leaves no room for negotiation. Student coordinators like Carl have been instructed by authorities to tell their respective groups that the pre-approved slots remain permanently fixed.
Final-year students are therefore strongly advised to make the necessary travel arrangements immediately to secure their grades. The administration expects candidates to leave their homes exceptionally early to beat the widespread traffic gridlock and be physically present for their defense at the designated time.
This strict directive means students will have to carefully brave the elements around the Madina, Legon, and Atomic Junction corridors. These specific areas are currently experiencing deep water pooling and heavily overflowing drainage systems due to the torrential downpour.

While you plan your commute to save your academic future, please prioritize basic safety protocols on the road. Avoid walking through deep moving currents, keep your presentation materials in waterproof bags, and use elevated alternative routes to arrive at the examination hall safely.
