One dead, eight injured in accident at Matsekorpe Junction on Sege-Kasseh highway. It is the exact headline nobody ever wants to read, but here we are again discussing another tragic moment on our roads.
I personally travel along the Tema-Aflao stretch quite often, and honestly, the sheer recklessness of some drivers on that highway absolute terrifies me. Every single journey feels like a high-stakes game of chance where simple common sense gets thrown completely out the window.

What Actually Happened at Matsekorpe Junction?
The crash happened on a Tuesday afternoon around 1:00 PM along the Sege-Kasseh stretch of the busy Tema-Aflao Highway. A Toyota Corolla carrying a single passenger collided directly with two separate Opel Astra taxis.
Eyewitnesses reported that the 26-year-old Corolla driver attempted a dangerous, high-speed overtaking maneuver. He smashed head-on into the first taxi, which then caused a second taxi right behind it to pile straight into the wreck.

Total Vehicles Involved: 3 vehicles (1 Toyota Corolla, 2 Opel Astra taxis).

Fatalities: 1 female passenger, aged around 30, sadly passed away upon arrival at the hospital.

Injuries: 8 individuals sustained severe injuries, with 2 drivers currently listed in critical condition.

Why Do These Avoidable Accidents Keep Happening?
I mean, driving isn’t rocket science, right? Yet, reckless impatience continues to destroy families and ruin innocent lives across our local communities.
An eyewitness pastor driving right behind the crash narrowly swerved his own car to avoid getting wiped out entirely. Local assembly members also pointed out another frustrating factor: commercial taxis regularly overload passengers, making emergency evasive maneuvers almost impossible for drivers when chaos strikes.

FYI, overtaking on a busy single-lane highway to save two minutes isn’t worth taking someone’s mother, sister, or child away forever IMO.
The police have impounded all three wrecked vehicles while formal investigations continue. However, stricter law enforcement can only do so much if drivers refuse to change their personal mindsets.
When will we finally treat driving as a heavy responsibility rather than a video game with extra lives? We desperately need urgent speed ramps, stricter highway patrols, and immediate public education before the next headline reads even worse.
