A 30-year-old farmer has been sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour for assaulting his wife at Domeabra in the Agona Nkwanta Municipality of the Western Region.
Emmanuel Kwofie was sentenced by the Agona Nkwanta District Court on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, after pleading guilty to the assault charge.
The case was presided over by His Worship Kuma Selorm Dzata.
How the Incident Happened
According to reports, the incident occurred on October 8, 2026, after Kwofie allegedly accused his wife, Diana Mensah, a second-hand clothing dealer, of having an extramarital affair.
The accusation reportedly led to a violent confrontation in which he assaulted her.
Footage of the incident later circulated on social media, attracting public attention and raising concerns about domestic violence and the safety of victims within their homes.
Police Arrest and Court Proceedings
Following the incident, the police arrested Kwofie on October 12, 2026, and began investigations into the assault.
He was subsequently arraigned before the Agona Nkwanta District Court, where he pleaded guilty to the charge.
The court convicted him on his own plea and sentenced him to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour.
Domestic Violence Remains a Concern
The case has once again drawn attention to domestic violence and the consequences of physical abuse within relationships.
Disagreements and suspicions between partners can have serious consequences when they lead to violence. Such incidents also highlight the importance of addressing relationship conflicts without resorting to physical force.
The sentencing brings the case before the court to a conclusion at the trial stage, while serving as a reminder of the legal consequences associated with assault.
Domestic violence remains a serious concern, and people experiencing abuse are encouraged to seek assistance from the police and appropriate support services.
