The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is set to receive up to $700,000 annually from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following a 33% increase in annual funding for its 54 member associations.
The announcement was made by CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen football development and improve the financial capacity of football associations across Africa. <Cite refs={[“turn869404search1″,”turn869404news15”]}/>
Under the revised funding structure, the annual allocation for each member association will rise from up to $525,000 to $700,000.
The increase means the GFA could receive an additional $175,000 annually compared with the previous allocation, subject to CAF’s funding arrangements.
CAF Increases Support for African Football
CAF said the increased funding forms part of its commitment to making football across its 54 member associations more sustainable and better equipped for long-term development.
The additional resources are intended to help national football associations strengthen their administrative structures, invest in youth and women’s football, improve governance and support programmes for players, coaches and referees. <Cite refs={[“turn869404search1″,”turn869404search4”]}/>
For Ghana, the increased allocation could provide additional financial support for football development programmes, grassroots competitions and the growth of the game at different levels.
However, the detailed spending plans for the GFA’s allocation have not been announced in the information available.
CAF Funding Has Increased Since 2021
The latest adjustment follows a series of increases in CAF’s annual financial support to member associations.
In 2021, each association received $200,000 annually. The amount was later increased to $400,000 before rising to $525,000 and now reaching up to $700,000. <Cite refs={[“turn869404search1″,”turn869404search5”]}/>
According to CAF, the latest allocation represents a 250% increase compared with the 2021 level.
The funding changes reflect the continental body’s stated objective of strengthening football administration and supporting more sustainable development across its member associations.
CAF Also Increases Funding for Zonal Unions
Alongside the increase for member associations, CAF has raised annual funding for its zonal unions from $750,000 to $900,000, representing a 20% increase.
The African Clubs Association will also see its allocation rise from $400,000 to $500,000. <Cite refs={[“turn869404search1″,”turn869404search3”]}/>
The new funding structure is expected to provide additional resources for football development and administration across the continent.
For the GFA, the increased annual support creates an opportunity to strengthen its programmes and contribute to the continued development of Ghanaian football.
