Gomoa Central Member of Parliament, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, claims he possesses crucial information to assist state investigators probing assets belonging to Bernard Antwi Boasiako. The NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, was recently sentenced by an Accra High Court to 20 years in prison over illegal mining activities tied to Akonta Mining Company Limited.
In a video circulating online, A Plus urged the National Intelligence Bureau and the Ghana Revenue Authority to inspect import duty records for Wontumi’s high end vehicle fleet. The luxury cars include a Rolls Royce and a Mercedes Benz G Wagon.
A Plus publicly declared his intention to write a formal petition to the Ghana Revenue Authority to audit the exact import duties cleared on Wontumi’s luxury fleet. He stated that he knows the specific individuals who processed the clearing documentation for the high end vehicles at the port.
Verifying import duty payments ensures that high profile public figures comply fully with national tax laws. Uncovering tax evasion or underdeclaration protects state revenues and reinforces equal enforcement of customs regulations across Ghana.
Addressing NPP supporters, A Plus criticized political party members who organize street protests to defend politicians facing genuine court convictions. He urged grassroots party members to focus their energy on internal party reforms rather than shielding individuals convicted of environmental crimes.
Many politicians enrich themselves while holding public office, only turning to ordinary citizens for support when legal trouble arrives. Citizens must evaluate court judgments using logic rather than blind political loyalty.
Demanding investigations into asset declarations and customs payments promotes transparency among political leaders. State security agencies like the National Intelligence Bureau rely on credible public information to execute thorough financial investigations.
