Accra commuters using the busy Dr Busia Highway are bracing themselves for heavy gridlock as major drainage construction works take center stage.
Works Spearheaded by the Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development Project mean parts of the road corridor face temporary shutdowns to fix perennial flooding.
Stepping into the fray, Minister for Works and Housing Ahmed Ibrahim inspected the project site to make sure proper traffic mitigation measures are put in place.
Nobody wants a repeat of chaotic standstill traffic where commercial drivers and office workers spend precious hours trapped in avoidable gridlock around Kaneshie.
During his site visit, the minister urged contractors and stakeholders to tighten up diversion strategies so that ordinary citizens do not suffer unduly during construction.
Alternative routes have been mapped out through Awudome and Mataheko corridors to keep vehicles moving while heavy engineering work happens underground.
Transport operators and daily commuters must plan their journeys early, use designated bypasses, and cooperate with traffic managers to keep Accra moving.
