The Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has declared her support for former MP George Kofi Arthur in his bid to become the next Western Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Madam Gyan Cudjoe is calling on party executives and delegates across the Western Region to support Mr Arthur as the party prepares to elect its regional executives in November.
Mr Arthur, who represented Amenfi Central in Parliament from 2005 to 2017, is contesting the chairmanship position as one of three candidates in the race.
He is reportedly contesting as Number 2 on the ballot paper. The other candidates include the incumbent regional chairman, Nana Kojo Toku, and former Regional Vice Chairman Samuel K. Borlu.
MP highlights Arthur’s leadership experience
In her campaign message, Joana Gyan Cudjoe has highlighted Mr Arthur’s parliamentary and party experience, describing him as someone she believes can help strengthen the NDC’s structures across the Western Region.
She has also pointed to his proposed focus on party unity, accountability, grassroots participation and inclusive leadership.
According to reports, the Amenfi Central MP has appealed to constituency executives and delegates in all 17 constituencies to support his candidature.
She believes his approach would encourage greater cooperation among party members and ensure that constituencies and grassroots supporters have a voice in regional party administration.
Campaign focuses on unity and grassroots participation
Mr Arthur’s campaign is centred on strengthening the party’s organisational structures and improving coordination between regional executives, constituency leaders and grassroots members.
His proposed priorities include transparent administration, member welfare, the use of technology and wider participation in party activities.
The endorsement from the Amenfi Central MP adds to the campaign activities ahead of the NDC Western Regional executive elections.
The election will determine who leads the party’s regional organisation for the next term.
