A 22-year-old motor mechanic and Bolt driver, Emmanuel Kofi Mensah, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison with hard labour by an Adenta Circuit Court for robbery.

The case involved a beautician who had booked his Bolt service to travel from Madina Zongo Junction to Adenta.

Mensah pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted on his own plea by the court, presided over by Mrs Angela Attachie.

According to the prosecution, the incident happened on September 23, 2026.

The victim, Yvonne Dzane Dzifa, reportedly booked Mensah’s Bolt service from Madina Zongo Junction to Adenta.

When they reached Adenta Barrier, Dzifa asked Mensah to stop. However, he allegedly locked the vehicle’s doors and continued driving towards the Adenta-Dodowa road.

Mensah later drove through Mantey Farms, where he allegedly stopped and demanded the victim’s handbag and other belongings.

When Dzifa resisted, Mensah allegedly pulled out a cutlass and threatened her.

He then reportedly dragged her out of the vehicle.

During the struggle, Dzifa held tightly onto her handbag. Mensah allegedly struck her with the cutlass and injured her left wrist and little finger.

He then allegedly took the handbag.

The bag reportedly contained an iPhone 17 Pro Max valued at GH¢18,000, an iPhone 12 valued at GH¢3,500, GH¢3,200 in cash and other personal belongings.

After allegedly taking the bag, Mensah reportedly contacted another person.

The alleged accomplice arrived at the scene on a motorbike.

Dzifa managed to grab a backpack from the front seat of the vehicle and ran into a nearby bush.

The two men allegedly chased her, but she managed to escape.

She later climbed over the fence of a nearby house and sought refuge inside the compound.

She remained there until the following morning.

The landlord eventually discovered her and alerted the Police, who came to her rescue.

Dzifa had suffered injuries during the incident. She was given a medical report form and later received treatment at Pantang Government Hospital.

How the Bolt Driver Was Arrested

Mensah was arrested the following day after allegedly taking the stolen iPhone 17 Pro Max to an Apple shop at Madina Zongo Junction to sell it.

The shop owner reportedly became suspicious after noticing the victim’s photograph on the phone.

The owner then caused Mensah’s arrest and handed him over to the Police.

Police reportedly found the cutlass allegedly used in the robbery concealed in Mensah’s shorts.

During interrogation, Mensah reportedly admitted the offence and pleaded for forgiveness.

The court was also told that Mensah claimed the Bolt vehicle belonged to a Nigerian friend.

Police investigations are continuing to identify and arrest the alleged accomplice who reportedly arrived at the scene on a motorbike.

25-Year Prison Sentence

After pleading guilty to the robbery charge, Mensah was sentenced to 25 years in prison with hard labour.

The case has raised concerns about passenger safety and the need for caution when using transport services.

It also highlights the serious consequences that can follow violent crime and robbery.

For passengers, the incident is a reminder to remain alert when using ride-hailing services, especially when a driver deviates from the agreed destination.

For young people, the case also serves as a warning that criminal activity can have life-changing consequences.
