The Black Stars’ journey at the 2026 FIFA World Cup has come to a disappointing end after a painful 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32. Following the tournament exit, head coach Carlos Queiroz has officially bid an emotional farewell to Ghana.
The Portuguese tactician was brought in on a short-term four-month contract by Sports Minister Kofi Adams to lead the team through the World Cup campaign. While his time was short, Queiroz leaves Ghanaians with a profound reality check about the true state of our national football.
In a heartfelt message, Queiroz explained that football teaches us that you either win or you learn. He expressed pride in the squad but admitted a healthy dissatisfaction because he wanted more for the nation.
Crucially, the former coach warned that the future of the Black Stars cannot be built only on the pitch. He stressed that true success must start off the field by creating proper institutional structures to prepare, protect, and develop Ghana’s incredible football talent.
While fans are hurting from the Colombia defeat, Queiroz believes the team at least restored some international respect and credibility. Moving forward, the Ghana Football Association must take his advice seriously because talent alone will no longer save Ghanaian football.
