Ghanaian teachers suspend two-week nationwide strike to resume classroom duties following high-level meetings with the Council of State and Fair Wages.

Ghanaian teachers have finally decided to lay down their placards and pick up their chalk once again.

The major pre-tertiary teacher unions comprising GNAT, NAGRAT, and PRETAG suspended their two-week nationwide strike.

This bold move comes after a fruitful dialogue with the Council of State and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission. Members have been officially directed to head back to the classrooms on Monday, 12th October.

It is good news for parents and students who have been home biting their fingers while books gathered dust.

The industrial action was born out of deep frustration regarding unpaid salary arrears and poor conditions of service.

Teachers argued that manning classrooms on empty stomachs and unfulfilled promises is heavy work. Government bodies had to step in quickly before things went completely out of hand in the educational sector.

Both parties met to iron out pressing concerns so that teaching and learning can resume without further delay. Negotiations are still ongoing behind closed doors to ensure every legitimate demand is fully met.

Union leaders made it clear that suspending the strike does not mean the fight for better welfare has ended. They will keep talking with authorities until all outstanding arrears and allowances are cleared from the books.

For now, Ghanaian children can happily pack their school bags and get ready for school on Monday morning.
