How Bank Of Ghana Plans To Fix African Money Transfers

Share this:

Sending money across African borders has always been a painful headache for traders. Moving cash from one country to another comes with too many heavy roadblocks. Thankfully the Bank of Ghana wants to change this frustrating story for good. Officials are building new pathways to make digital payments smooth and fast.

Owureku Asare who heads innovation at the central bank shared these plans during a recent launch event. He pointed out that local tech builders need a bigger playground to test their ideas. Because African markets operate in separate zones building a continental testing environment matters greatly. This setup allows digital creators to test apps and scale their businesses easily across multiple nations.

Ghana is already testing payment links with Rwanda through a special five week program. Discussions are also ongoing with Nigeria and seven other nations to join this movement. The goal is simple and clear because nobody enjoys wasting time and money on regional payments. Leaders want everyday citizens and traders to move value without stress.

Beyond international payments the central bank is pushing local startups to aim for true financial health. Basic access to mobile accounts is already a reality for millions of people. The next smart step focuses on ensuring those accounts actually improve daily lives. With dedicated laws and proper innovation hubs coming soon local tech talents have a bright future ahead.
