Shooting a film in Ghana is not small work, especially when your set is right on top of water. Kwadwo Nkansah, famously known as LilWin, took his production team to Nzulezu in the Western Region.

This unique stilt village requires a forty minute canoe ride just to enter. After three days on location, the visiting Nigerian actors reportedly refused to step inside another boat. They claimed the water travel was too risky for their liking.

LilWin admitted he understood their fears to some extent. After all, the African movie community still remembers the tragic drowning incident involving a popular Nigerian actor during a water shoot. When the visiting stars demanded a relocation, LilWin faced a massive roadblock. The entire script and storyline of A Journey to Africa were built around the authentic culture and beauty of Nzulezu. Moving out of the village would completely ruin the original vision of the film.

Bringing foreign talent into local Ghanaian spaces often comes with hidden production shocks. While actors priority safety, changing a script mid way costs serious money and time. Filmmakers must now ask how to balance daring creative locations with the comfort levels of international cast members. If producers fail to address travel fears early, big budget projects risk collapsing before principal photography even finishes.
