President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Emelia Afi Agbenyo and Joseph Kwaku Asamoah (Esq.) as Deputy Commissioners of the Electoral Commission (EC).
The appointments are expected to strengthen the leadership of the Electoral Commission as it carries out its constitutional mandate of organising and supervising elections in Ghana.
Agbenyo and Asamoah are scheduled to be sworn into office at Jubilee House, the seat of Ghana’s presidency.
The Electoral Commission plays a vital role in Ghana’s democracy. Its responsibilities include managing elections, maintaining the credibility of the electoral process and ensuring that electoral activities comply with the law.
The appointment of the two deputy commissioners comes at a time when public confidence, transparency and accountability remain important issues in electoral administration.
Their new roles will place them within the leadership structure responsible for supporting the Commission’s work and carrying out its constitutional duties.
Further details about their specific responsibilities and the official swearing-in arrangements are expected through communication from the Presidency or the Electoral Commission.
