President John Dramani Mahama has strongly cautioned religious leaders to embrace total restraint following recent ugly clashes between a pastor and an imam. Speaking at the thirty second Biennial General Council Meeting of the Assemblies of God in Gomoa Fetteh on August twentieth 2026, he described the altercations as deeply unfortunate. Mahama stressed that genuine religious conviction must never degenerate into public provocation or physical assault.
Recent weeks witnessed viral online videos featuring offensive remarks against holy figures followed by retaliatory threats and police arrests involving Imam Masud Abdullah and Apostle Daniel Junior Yaw Adjei. Things escalated further when footage emerged showing the Christian cleric being assaulted inside lawful custody which triggered another prompt arrest. President Mahama reminded everyone that the Almighty Creator never requires human violence or intimidation to defend His sacred name.
Ghana has long enjoyed a proud tradition of peaceful coexistence where Christians and Muslims share families schools and workplaces harmoniously. The head of state urged all spiritual leaders to watch their public language carefully both on pulpits and across digital social media spaces. While constitutional laws protect freedom of worship nobody possesses the right to insult another group or take laws into their own hands. Elders and peace councils will step in to foster total reconciliation while state institutions handle pending legal matters.
