Police Crackdown: Seven Arrested Following Theft of Unregistered Hyundai Vehicles

The Inspector-General of Police’s special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) has successfully apprehended seven individuals involved in a vehicle theft syndicate.

This operation follows a targeted investigation into the disappearance of three unregistered vehicles, specifically Hyundai Elantra and Sonata models, in the Eastern Region.

Authorities initiated this operation on May 25, 2026, after receiving a report regarding the theft of an unregistered blue Hyundai Elantra from a resident in Nkawkaw. By leveraging digital intelligence, the specialized team tracked the vehicle to a hidden location at Roman Down, Asamankese.

The CVET unit collaborated closely with the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) Detachment based in the Asamankese area to execute the arrests. This coordinated effort allowed the police to secure the suspects and impound the stolen assets simultaneously.

  • The seven suspects currently in police custody are Acheampong Otuo Kofi (alias Levels, 28), Kpachen Ebenezer (26), Fianko Isaac (alias Yaw, 35), and Besah Elizabeth (24).
  • The remaining individuals arrested include David Kudalor (28), Enoch Acheampong (38), and Solomon Odei (35).
  • Police successfully retrieved the three stolen vehicles during the operation.

All seven suspects are currently being held in police custody while they assist investigators with ongoing inquiries. Law enforcement officials are committed to ensuring a thorough judicial process as the investigation moves forward.

The police are not stopping at these three vehicles, as they have launched further efforts to identify and recover additional stolen cars that may still be in the possession of this group. This proactive approach aims to dismantle the syndicate’s wider network entirely.

Public cooperation remains a cornerstone of effective crime prevention in the Eastern Region and beyond. Authorities are urging citizens to stay vigilant and volunteer any relevant information regarding suspicious car-jacking activities in their respective neighborhoods.

Providing tips to the police helps security agencies stay ahead of criminal syndicates. If you notice any irregular activity involving unregistered vehicles or suspicious behavior, reporting it promptly to your local police station can make a significant difference in community safety.
