Seven Ghanaian fishermen who went missing during a fishing expedition have reportedly been rescued in Benin’s territorial waters. The men had spent three days missing after departing Sekondi Fishing Harbour in the Western Region aboard a canoe named Second Chance. Their rescue brings hope after the worrying disappearance, although questions remain about how they ended up so far from their intended fishing area.
How the Fishermen Went Missing
According to the report, the seven fishermen set off from Sekondi Fishing Harbour for a fishing expedition off the coast of Axim. They travelled in Second Chance, but they did not return as expected, and their whereabouts remained unknown for three days.
The available information does not explain what caused the canoe to travel towards Benin, whether the fishermen encountered bad weather or mechanical problems, or how they maintained their safety during the ordeal. These details will be important in understanding what happened at sea.
Rescue in Benin’s Territorial Waters
The fishermen were eventually found and rescued in Benin’s territorial waters, according to the supplied news report. However, the report does not identify the rescue team or provide details about the men’s health and current location.
Their rescue raises further questions about how they reached Benin and when they will return to Ghana. Confirmation from the relevant authorities could help establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
The incident highlights the risks fishermen face when they travel into open waters. For Ghana’s coastal communities, fishing supports many livelihoods, but safety must remain a priority on every trip.
Reliable communication equipment, life jackets and proper preparation can help crews respond to emergencies at sea. For now, the key development is the reported rescue of the seven missing Ghanaian fishermen. Readers should follow credible Ghanaian news outlets and official statements for verified updates on their condition and return home.
