The powerful tremor hit the Chocó department near San José del Palmar at a depth of about 110 kilometers. This disaster has left the entire South American country in deep mourning with thousands injured.
Official situation reports from the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management confirm that the death toll has climbed past 240 people. Nearly 4,000 citizens suffered varying degrees of physical injuries from collapsed infrastructure. Rescuers are still working tirelessly through heavy rubble to locate hundreds of missing persons. Major cities like Cali and Pereira experienced catastrophic destruction as residential buildings flattened completely.
International organizations and local medical teams have mobilized rapidly to support the ongoing rescue operations in Colombia. The United Nations joined forces with national authorities to supply emergency kits, temporary shelter, and safe drinking water. Specialized groups like Direct Relief are also rushing critical medicines and trauma care kits to overwhelmed hospitals. Damaged roads and blocked mountain paths are slowing down aid delivery to remote communities.
