The United Arab Emirates has just shown true friendship to Ghana in a very big way. They donated massive relief items valued at a whopping 1 million dollars to support victims of the devastating June 29 floods. This translates to over GHc12 million which is a huge blessing for affected communities. The items include food boxes mattresses blankets and thousands of cartons of bottled water to sustain families.
The floods really caused massive heartbreak around Accra when heavy rains destroyed homes and submerged roads. Many people lost their entire livelihoods and businesses in just a few hours of the angry downpour. The UAE Aid agency stepped in quickly after the government made an international appeal for urgent assistance. Rashid Al Shamsi who is the Executive Director of Operations presented the items directly to our officials.
Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability Seidu Issifu happily received the donation on behalf of the President. He expressed deep gratitude and noted that this gesture proves the strong bond between Ghana and the UAE. The beautiful part is that they bought all these relief items locally right here in Ghana. This smart move directly supports our local businesses and pumps money straight back into the Ghanaian economy.
The National Disaster Management Organisation is working very hard to distribute everything fairly to the most affected areas. Deputy Minister for the Interior Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi also thanked the generous donors for bringing hope in such difficult times. We sincerely hope these essential supplies bring quick comfort to all the victims trying to rebuild their lives today. True friends always show up when things get tough and the UAE has definitely proven their total loyalty.
