The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has recorded 100,628 beneficiaries as of September 30, 2026, representing 75.7% of its annual recruitment target of 133,000.
The Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Malik Basintale, announced the figures during the Government Accountability Series at Jubilee House on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.
According to him, the achievement reflects the agency’s efforts to expand access to employment opportunities, practical skills training and workplace experience for young Ghanaians.
YEA Explains Its Role in Youth Employment
Mr Basintale clarified that the YEA is not a direct employer that recruits young people into permanent positions across mainstream public and private sector institutions.
Rather, he explained that the agency serves as a stop-gap institution, providing temporary employment opportunities, skills development and work experience to help beneficiaries improve their chances of securing further employment.
The agency works through different programmes and partnerships designed to equip young people with practical skills and prepare them for the world of work.
Recruitment Target Stands at 133,000
The agency’s annual target for 2026 is 133,000 beneficiaries. With 100,628 recorded by the end of September, the YEA had reached more than three-quarters of its target, leaving 32,372 places to meet the goal.
Mr Basintale also reported that beneficiary recruitment had increased by 566.67% since he assumed office in 2025.
He said the figures represented more than recruitment statistics, highlighting the livelihoods and opportunities created for young people seeking to contribute to national development.
Skills Training and Employment Pathways
The YEA has expanded its interventions across 16 employment models, including vocational training, information technology, industrial attachment, garment production and overseas employment.
These initiatives are intended to help beneficiaries gain practical experience, develop relevant skills and improve their prospects in the job market.
As the year approaches its final quarter, the agency has more beneficiaries to reach to achieve its 2026 recruitment target.
The progress will be measured not only by the number of people enrolled but also by the quality of opportunities, skills acquired and pathways to sustainable employment available to young Ghanaians.
