Youth-Based Movement Decries Poor State of Development in the Upper East Region

Youth-Based Movement Decries Poor State

Activista Ghana, a prominent youth movement affiliated with ActionAid Ghana, has strongly criticized the government over the continuous neglect of the Upper East Region. Speaking at a stakeholder engagement in Bolgatanga, the group highlighted how the massive political support from the region has yielded little tangible development for the local people.

Regional Coordinator Nicholas Azebire pointed out that basic infrastructure remains in a terrible state across several districts. Many areas like Nabdam, Talensi, Bongo, and Builsa North still lack proper tarred roads, making daily travel and business activities extremely difficult for residents.

The movement also raised concerns about abandoned economic and health projects. Stalled Agenda 111 hospital builds, the delayed Upper East Regional Airport, and collapsed factories in Pawlugu and Zuarungu continue to starve the local youth of vital employment opportunities.

Activista Ghana is urging regional leaders and MPs to push harder for real action. The youth are demanding that the government fulfill its promises by reviving key industries and delivering the infrastructure needed to transform the regional economy.
