The dangerous trade of trafficking illegal substances through our northern transport corridors has suffered a massive blockade. Honest police officers stationed in the Bole District have successfully intercepted seventy-three large parcels of suspected cannabis, popularly known across Ghana as Indian hemp or wee.

The high-stakes narcotics operation took place during a routine highway inspection in the Savannah Region. The bold refusal of a massive bribe by the roadside team has won them widespread praise, proving that integrity still exists within our national security apparatus.

The security breakthrough unfolded along the busy Banda Nkwanta to Teslima highway. Police officers on duty stopped a commercial transit vehicle with registration number AS 4874-25 that was traveling directly from Techiman toward Wa.

The sharp-eyed officers became highly suspicious after noticing strange inconsistencies regarding the heavy luggage loaded onto the bus. A thorough physical search of the bags quickly exposed seventy-three tightly wrapped parcels of the illegal plant hidden beneath ordinary passenger goods.

The police immediately detained the commercial driver alongside a female passenger in her early forties who claimed full ownership of the heavy luggage. During interrogation, the woman allegedly admitted that she was transporting the narcotics to Sengye, a local community sitting very close to Bole.

Investigators reveal that the final delivery destination is heavily linked to active illegal mining sites. Drug traffickers frequently target galamsey hubs because they can sell psychoactive substances at extremely high prices to laborers who use them to endure long hours of hard physical work.

The most dramatic moment of the highway arrest occurred when the suspects realized they were heading straight to a jail cell. The traffickers allegedly pulled out a staggering three hundred thousand Ghana cedis in cash, offering it to the officers to kill the case on the spot.

The disciplined personnel flatly rejected the massive cash temptation and proceeded to handcuff both individuals in strict accordance with police procedures. Attempting to bribe an active law enforcement officer is a serious independent crime under our national laws, meaning the suspects have automatically doubled their legal troubles.

The two suspects are currently resting inside the police cells while deep investigations into the wider supply network continue. The seized leaf blocks will travel straight to a state laboratory for advanced forensic testing before formal charges are filed in a court of law.

Under Ghana’s Narcotics Control Commission Act of 2020, transporting or selling cannabis carries a minimum of ten years in a maximum security prison. This successful operation serves as a strong warning to drug cartels that our highways are fully locked down against illicit trade.
