Sefwi Sayerano Deadly Police Shooting Case

Sefwi Sayerano Deadly Police Shooting Case

The peaceful atmosphere in the Juaboso District has been completely shattered by a highly chaotic and deadly security operation. The Western North Regional Police Command has formally launched a full-scale investigation into a violent confrontation at Sefwi Sayerano that resulted in three tragic civilian deaths.

The fatal clash has triggered massive anger across the local municipality, forcing regional security chiefs to intervene directly before the local unrest escalates out of hand. What was supposed to be a standard law enforcement exercise has now turned into a major national conversation about the use of lethal firearms by the police service.

Local Drug Bust Turns Into a Bloody Highway Battle With Angry Residents

The deadly chain of events began when a team of plainclothes officers from the Sefwi Wiawso Divisional Police Command entered the farming community. Their specific operational target was to locate and arrest a notorious local drug peddler hiding within the neighborhood.

However, the routine police operation faced immediate and aggressive resistance from the local youth. According to a community leader, Okyeame Kwaku Ortiz, a highly heated argument quickly turned into a physical struggle as residents tried to prevent the officers from taking the suspect away. During the intense scuffle, the patrol team allegedly opened fire with live ammunition to disperse the crowd, killing two people on the spot.

The physical damage from the short shootout has continued to worsen. While two bodies were initially recovered from the scene, a third victim who was rushed to the Asafo Roman Catholic Hospital with deep gunshot injuries sadly passed away while receiving emergency medical care.

Two other community members remain on admission, battling severe bone fractures and gunshot wounds. To make matters more complicated, the local youth are panicking over another resident who went completely missing right after the shooting, with many fearing the individual might have run into the nearby bush with fatal injuries.

Faced with growing public outrage and a massive roadblock set up by residents to freeze the main highway linking to the Bia West District, the police administration has moved rapidly to enforce discipline. The Regional Commander, DCOP Dr. Francis Tsidi, officially announced the immediate interdiction of all eight police officers involved in the operation.

The Inspector-General of Police has bypassed the local division entirely, directing the independent Police Professional Standards Bureau to take over the criminal inquiry. This drastic step ensures that the actions of the patrol team will face a transparent, unbiased review to establish whether pulling the trigger was legally justified.

The District Chief Executive for Juaboso, Alexander Adu Quist, alongside the Member of Parliament, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, have both visited the community to comfort the grieving families. The political leaders heavily condemned the loss of human lives but begged the youth to clear the highway and stop attacking state properties.

The local assembly has promised to work hand-in-hand with the traditional authorities to find a permanent solution to the recurring friction between civilians and the police. Ordinary citizens are keeping a very close eye on the regional command, hoping this case will not become another forgotten file in the archives of security institutional cover-ups.
