Good news has finally arrived for all frequent flyers and vacation travelers using our main international aviation gateway in Accra. The stressful days of hopping on one foot to pull off your heavy leather boots or rushing to slide your belt back into your trousers while security lines build up behind you are officially coming to an end.
The Ghana Airports Company Limited has announced a major upgrade to the security screening checkpoints at both Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. The airport operator is deploying modern state-of-the-art screening equipment designed to make your journey smoother while keeping the skies completely safe.
Laptops and Big Electronic Gadgets Can Stay Hidden inside Your Bags
The first major relief under this technological upgrade is how electronic devices will be handled at the security gate. Previously, airport security officers would strictly order every traveler to unpack their laptops, tablets, and large power banks, forcing you to place them into separate plastic trays.
This old requirement frequently caused long delays and sometimes led to passengers accidentally forgetting their expensive gadgets in the screening area. With the newly installed scanning machines, your laptops and other large electronic devices can now remain tucked away safely inside your cabin baggage during the entire process.
Keep Your Clothes Intact Unless Security Profiling Flags You Down
The second massive change directly affects your personal dress code when passing through the metal detectors. Passengers can now confidently walk through the main checkpoint scanners with their shoes and belts fully on.
This development will drastically reduce the chaotic morning and evening traffic jams that regularly occur during peak international flight schedules. However, management clarified that travelers might still be asked to strip off these items if specific security profiling or an unexpected alarm trigger makes it necessary for deeper inspection.
Liquids and Gels Stay in Bags but the Strict 100ml Limit Is Still Alive
The new scanning systems also change how the airport processes Liquids, Aerosols, and Gels, which frequent travelers usually refer to as LAGs. You no longer need to pull out your toothpaste, perfumes, or hair creams for independent tray screening because the new scanners can read them directly inside your bags.

But do not get overly excited and pack a massive bottle of local shito or heavy body lotion into your hand luggage. Ghana Airports Company Limited emphasized that the international aviation law restricting all liquids to a maximum of 100ml per container is still strictly in force.
Automatic Trays and Phased Rollout Mean a Gradual Shift for Everyone
To make the transit experience even faster, the authorities have introduced a new Automatic Tray Return System. This mechanised setup quickly pulls empty trays away and resets them for the next passenger, giving you ample time to repack your personal items without pressure.
The airport management stated that the migration onto this modern system will follow a progressive phased rollout. The new machines will run side-by-side with the old screening gear for a few weeks, so travelers should remain patient and cooperate fully with airport staff as the final transition takes place.
