An Uber driver who masterminded a cold-blooded, premeditated robbery targeting a 75-year-old traditional priestess in the Ashanti Region has been sentenced to 25 years in prison, while his three young accomplices were each handed 20-year terms by the Nsuta Circuit Court.
The tactical ringleader, 33-year-old Kofi Adu (infamously known as K2), threw himself at the mercy of the court by pleading guilty to robbery charges before presiding judge His Lordship Simon Nketia Gagah. His co-accused Owusu Patrick, 21; Francis Obeng (alias Amani), 22; and Karim Nurudeen (alias Kusheshe) all received their heavy sentences on identical charges.
How did the “Spiritual” scam lead to the violent robbery?
Prosecutors revealed a chilling, calculated plot against Nana Afua Konadu at her shrine near Kumawu on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2025. The operation was set up months in advance when one suspect infiltrated the shrine disguised as a client seeking spiritual protection for imaginary gold, using the ruse to gain the victim’s trust and map the layout.
On the night of the strike, a group of masked men brandishing machetes stormed the sacred site, violently assaulting the elderly priestess. They forced her to lead them through various rooms at knifepoint before vanishing with over GH¢65,000 in cash, mobile phones, and a collection of other valuables.
How did the police track down the “K2” gang?
The breakthrough came when the victim identified two of the attackers, including the ringleader, which sparked a high-stakes police manhunt. A targeted sting operation launched between April 24 and April 27 eventually led to the arrest of the four suspects across multiple communities in the Ashanti Region.
During the arrest of the ringleader, police recovered a traditional smock stuffed with GH¢45,000 believed to be the victim’s stolen funds, along with several mobile phones and a getaway vehicle. While four men are now behind bars, a fifth suspect remains at large, and investigators insist the case remains open until the final member of the crew is captured.
