Ah Chairman, driving on our roads these days is like playing a dangerous game of football where the referee is sleeping. A driver transporting oxygen cylinders in a white Tata truck from Kumasi found himself in a real life action movie on the Sunyani road. Another driver was speeding like a Formula One racer, forcing our man to violently swerve his vehicle straight into the nearby bush just to save his life and the lives of his two innocent children. Eii, God is truly wonderful because imagine if those oxygen cylinders had exploded in the bush.
Eyɛ asem o, and eyewitnesses at the scene did not waste time in venting their heavy frustration about the state of the highway. According to the people gathered there, the government should not even bother fixing the road if it gets damaged, because the basic road markings are completely missing. You see, even the simple white lines that show drivers whether they are on the right or left lane do not exist on that stretch. How can drivers survive in the night or during heavy rainfall without lane markings guiding their steering wheels?
When you check recent reports from the National Road Safety Authority of Ghana, poor road infrastructure and lack of proper signages contribute heavily to avoidable highway crashes. It is high time the Ministry of Roads and Highways takes serious action on Kumasi and Sunyani routes before more innocent families suffer. We cannot keep losing lives to reckless speeding combined with neglected road markings. Drive safely out there because your family is waiting for you at home.
