President John Dramani Mahama has officially stated that two billion dollars has been secured for the massive Accra-Kumasi Expressway project.
This money is safely kept in a special account right inside the Bank of Ghana. Government insists this is pure Ghanaian taxpayer cash without any foreign loans attached. The military’s 48 Engineer Regiment successfully cleared a 175.6-kilometre stretch of land for this highway ahead of schedule.
President Mahama received this cleared right-of-way during a grand ceremony held at Kwaso near Ejisu. He has ordered the Ministry of Roads and Highways to make these military engineers major subcontractors on the job. Plans are underway to cut the official sod for heavy construction to begin before this coming Christmas.
Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson added that every cedi needed to finish the road will be fully realized by December 31. Contractors will receive instant payments for submitted certificates so that project delays become a thing of the past. When completed, this modern six-lane highway will slash travel time between Ghana’s two biggest cities from six hours down to just two. Drivers will enjoy better safety features including smart CCTV cameras, modern toll interchanges, and designated rest stops.
There is even space reserved along the corridor to construct a future railway line for commuter comfort. Towns along the route will stay connected through eight new interchanges designed to ease local traffic congestion. Heavy-duty cargo trucks heading toward northern borders can bypass busy city centers using integrated ring road networks. This infrastructure investment promises to boost national trade while making everyday road journeys much safer for everyone.
