Atletico Madrid are on the verge of landing Nigerian winger Ademola Lookman, aiming to inject pace and flair into their attack after Giacomo Raspadori’s departure left a hole in the squad.
The Spanish side moved quickly when it became clear they needed a proven forward to lead the line for the rest of the season. Lookman, who has impressed at Atalanta, has been on Atletico’s radar for months, but recent days have seen talks intensify as both clubs work to finalise the deal.
Initially, Turkish giants Fenerbahce looked set to swoop, offering Atalanta €40 million for the forward. But Atletico have overtaken them, with sources revealing a €35 million upfront fee plus €5 million in performance bonuses, leaving just the final details to iron out.
The Nigerian international is said to favour the move to Madrid, despite Fenerbahce’s improved financial offer. Reports indicate he is excited by Atletico’s project and eager to work under Diego Simeone, with a verbal agreement reportedly already in place.
If completed, Lookman will bring his trademark speed, versatility, and attacking creativity to the Metropolitano, bolstering Atletico’s push for success in La Liga and Europe.
