Afenyo Markin Calls For Party Unity to Defeat Ruling NDC in Next Elections

The political minority in Parliament has initiated a major grassroots mobilization drive across the Western North Region. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, has strongly criticized the ruling National Democratic Congress, accusing the administration of political deception and unfulfilled campaign promises.

Speaking to an energetic gathering of party faithful in Sefwi-Wiawso on Saturday June 20 2026, the legislative leader urged members of the opposition New Patriotic Party to remain intensely united and disciplined as they prepare for the 2028 general elections.

The intense partisan debate highlights the early strategies forming ahead of the country’s next major democratic transition.

Logic dictates that an opposition party cannot successfully reclaim executive authority if its internal front remains divided and fragmented. To prevent grassroots apathy, Afenyo-Markin used his regional platform to rally party sympathizers behind the political banner of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The Effutu legislator argued that the governing NDC has failed to deliver on the specific economic commitments made during the 2024 campaign, went as far as describing the administration’s performance as an intentional scam designed to mislead voters. He emphasized that the ruling party can only maintain its executive grip if the opposition fails to present a single cohesive front.

Speaking on behalf of the parliamentary caucus and national party elders, the Minority Leader pleaded for total reconciliation among local factions, urging supporters to stay vigilant and actively engage in neighborhood debates to dismantle the ruling party’s narrative.

Hoping to win a highly competitive national election while your own party members are busy fighting internal local battles is an absolute logical error. While grassroots supporters often carry emotional wounds from previous internal primaries, letting those personal disagreements fracture the party simply hands a free victory to your political opponents.

True electoral success relies on solid organization, clear community messaging, and total discipline at the polling station level. By taking this urgent message directly to the Sefwi-Wiawso enclave and demanding an immediate end to internal bickering, the minority leadership is using straightforward logic to rebuild its base, hold the current government accountable, and create a powerful, unified machinery ready for the 2028 ballot.
