The constant fear of armed robbers attacking your hard-earned business can keep you up at night. Fortunately, the Ghana Police Service just proved that criminals will not always have the upper hand in Accra.
According to an official statement by Chief Superintendent Juliana Obeng of the Accra Regional Police Command, a major heist was crushed on July 3. Two armed men on a motorbike targeted a mobile money vendor driving home in Lashibi with a bag containing GH¢140,000.
The robbers fired ruthlessly at the vendor’s car, shattering the front windscreen and flattening the right rear tyre to steal the cash. However, the story took a wild turn when the brave victim pulled out his own weapon and fired back at the fleeing criminals.
One suspect was shot dead on the spot, forcing the second thief to drop the GH¢140,000 bag and escape on foot. Police recovered every single cedi of the stolen GH¢140,000, and thankfully, the vendor escaped the scary ordeal without a single scratch.

A quick search on the deceased suspect uncovered an AK-47 assault rifle, two magazines loaded with 55 rounds of live ammunition, and an ID card bearing the name Innocent Elemuwa Akachukeu, aged 46. Investigators also retrieved spent shells at the scene while the body was sent to the Police Hospital mortuary.
The Accra Regional Police Command is actively hunting down the second suspect who is still on the run. If you have any clues that can help lock him up, please call the police emergency numbers 18555 or 191 immediately to keep our streets safe.
