The conversation surrounding security in the northern sectors of Ghana often comes with deep anxiety. Residents always worry about how illegal arms easily slip through porous borders into our quiet communities.
This fear almost became a harsh reality on Monday, June 29, 2026, when a commercial vehicle tried using an unapproved route. Thankfully, the Upper West Regional Police Command was one step ahead of the criminals.
Vigilant officers intercepted the vehicle near Wa and discovered a terrifying cargo hidden underneath ordinary goods. They uncovered a whopping 50,000 rounds of live ammunition heading straight into the region.
The illegal shipment consisted of 200 tightly packed boxes of AA cartridges meant for serious firepower. It is quite scary to think about what would have happened if these bullets reached their final destination.
The police immediately arrested three suspects at the scene to assist with deeper investigations. The officers identified the suspects as Alhassan Issahaku, Iddrisu Mashood, and Alhaji Issahaku.
In an official security statement issued on July 1, 2026, authorities confirmed that the trio remains in tight custody. Investigators are working around the clock to trace the main suppliers behind this dangerous operation.
The Regional Command highly praised the operational officers for showing top level professionalism and sharp eyes. This massive bust proves that our security forces are fully committed to protecting local families.
However, the police cannot fight this heavy battle alone while sitting in their patrol cars. They are urging every single resident to provide timely and credible information to help stop crime before it happens.
