Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams of Action Chapel International has cleared the air regarding his recent call for spiritual backing against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey. Speaking on Joy FM on August 17, 2026, he emphasized that his push for prayers is meant to support security agencies rather than replace proper law enforcement in Ghana.

Many people misunderstood his initial appeal, thinking he wanted the state to stop arresting illegal miners. The respected cleric explained that prayer is vital because some defiant operators rely on hidden forces to destroy water bodies and forest reserves. He made it clear that police officers and state institutions still carry the primary duty of prosecuting offenders.

According to the Archbishop, tackling galamsey and gold smuggling is extremely risky for state officials on the ground. Archbishop Duncan believes spiritual backing gives extra strength and protection to security personnel fighting powerful syndicates. Law enforcement must continue strictly without fear or favor to save the environment.

Instead of throwing away the rule book, Ghanaians should rather remember law enforcers in their daily devotions. Combining physical arrests with spiritual warfare creates a balanced approach to winning the fight against environmental degradation. State institutions remain fully responsible for bringing culprits to book while citizens support them with prayers.
