Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has announced that key statutory funds have received their full allocations for the third quarter of 2026.
The funds include the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), Ghana Medical Trust Fund and Road Maintenance Trust Fund.
The payments are intended to support essential public services, including local development, education, healthcare and road maintenance.
Dr Forson said the government remained committed to directing public resources towards services that directly affect the lives of Ghanaians.
“We are spending where it matters most, on the services Ghanaians depend on every day,” he stated.
He added that the timely release of funds was important because the institutions and communities that rely on them could not afford unnecessary delays.
Funds to Support Education, Healthcare and Roads
The statutory funds play important roles in Ghana’s public service delivery and development.
The District Assemblies Common Fund provides financial resources to local assemblies to support development projects and improve services within their communities.
GETFund supports education-related projects, including infrastructure development, while the National Health Insurance Fund helps finance healthcare services under the National Health Insurance Scheme.
The Ghana Medical Trust Fund is intended to support access to specialised medical care, while the Road Maintenance Trust Fund provides resources for maintaining the country’s road network.
Ensuring that these funds receive their allocations on time can help institutions plan their activities, meet financial obligations and deliver services more effectively.
Government Highlights Timely Payments
The announcement comes amid the government’s broader efforts to improve the release of funds to public institutions and statutory agencies.
Dr Forson has previously highlighted payments to statutory funds as part of the government’s approach to public financial management.
However, the latest announcement did not provide a separate breakdown of the amounts paid to each fund for the third quarter.
The impact of the payments will depend partly on how the resources are managed and used to meet the objectives of the respective institutions.
Focus on Public Service Delivery
The full-payment announcement is significant for sectors that depend on statutory funding to deliver essential services.
For local assemblies, the resources can support community development. In education and healthcare, reliable funding helps institutions plan their activities and address service needs. Road maintenance funding is also important for keeping roads in usable condition.
The next important step is ensuring that the funds are used efficiently and transparently to deliver tangible benefits to the public.
