Trouble is seriously brewing inside the New Patriotic Party right now. Angry delegates and active members from the Ayawaso Central Constituency have boldly stormed the party National Headquarters in Accra. They gathered in their numbers strictly demanding the immediate release of their polling station executives album. This register is very crucial for their upcoming local elections.
The frustrated members chanted loud party songs and officially called their street protest Ye Gye Yen. In our local language this simply means they are reclaiming what rightfully belongs to them. The whole drama centres around a delayed photo album that they desperately need to conduct free and fair internal elections. Nobody wants to be cheated in this political game.
According to the deeply aggrieved members of Ayawaso the long delay has completely stalled their voting process. Important local zones specifically the Nkansa Gyan and Kokomlemle East electoral areas cannot hold their mandatory elections. They feel very sad because other constituencies across the country have already finished voting and moved forward. It looks like someone is playing delay tactics with their future.
You really cannot blame the grassroots members for feeling totally sidelined from the democratic process. The bold protesters of Ayawaso have now given the national executives a strict three day ultimatum. The top bosses have from today until Wednesday to release the final verified album. They also expect a very clear and logical response regarding the strange delay.
The angry delegates of Ayawaso issued a strong warning that they will definitely take further serious action if their basic demands are ignored. National party leadership must step in and act fast before things get completely out of hand. Grassroots supporters are the main engine of any political party so making them angry is never a good strategy. Everyone is eagerly watching to see exactly how the headquarters will solve this growing political tension.
