The Data Protection Commission has ordered the management of Barry Callebaut in Tema to report to the police headquarters in Accra by tomorrow, Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
This sudden directive follows an alleged breach of the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843) during a strict compliance enforcement exercise carried out by the Commission on Tuesday.
Many companies in Ghana still treat customer and employee data anyhow, forgetting that the law has teeth to bite. When state institutions step out to inspect offices, they are not just joking around because your privacy matters a lot. Barry Callebaut now has to explain why their data handling practices allegedly fell short of the legal standards set by the regulator.
This move should serve as a sharp wake-up call to other businesses operating within the country that data security is no respecter of persons. If you collect people’s phone numbers, Ghana Card details, or personal records, you must protect them properly or face the music. Let us wait to see what the Criminal Investigations Department uncovers as the management reports tomorrow.
