The announcement comes as President Mahama has also commended the Ghana Police Service for its efforts to improve public safety.
Speaking at the commissioning of an 85-bed ward complex at the Ghana Police Hospital in Accra on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, the President highlighted what he described as improvements in road safety and a reduction in unresolved murder cases.
“Our country is safer today than it was before. The roads are safer. We also have a reduction in unresolved murders. I want to commend the CID for the good job they are doing,” he said.
The President praised police officers for their work in protecting lives and property and encouraged them to continue their efforts.
He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing the Ghana Police Service with the necessary logistics and equipment to perform its duties effectively.
Government Plans More Support for Police Officers
Beyond the proposed housing project, President Mahama announced plans to strengthen the operational capacity of the police through additional armoured vehicles and protective equipment.
He said a second batch of 40 armoured vehicles was expected in the coming weeks, following the delivery of 50 vehicles to the Police Service in December 2025.
The government is also procuring additional body armour to improve the safety of officers during operations.
These announcements, together with the proposed construction of 250 apartments and improvements to police healthcare facilities, form part of the government’s stated efforts to improve police welfare and operational readiness.
However, the GH¢300 million housing allocation remains a proposal for the 2027 Budget. Its implementation will depend on the budgetary process and the subsequent execution of the project.
