Each player representing the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup will receive an appearance fee of $100,000.
Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Eddie Adams confirmed this figure during a recent media appearance, providing clarity on the financial package allocated for the tournament participants.
This compensation is part of a broader fiscal plan as the government currently awaits a GHยข150 million budget release from the Ministry of Finance. This budget will cover the comprehensive costs associated with Ghanaโs participation in the upcoming North American tournament.
The coaching staff is currently preparing to trim the final squad list from 28 to 26 players before the team officially departs for North America. Minister Adams indicated that these roster cuts will most likely occur within the goalkeeping unit.
The current preliminary squad features a balanced mix of 28 players: five goalkeepers, nine defenders, seven midfielders, and seven forwards. This group is presently based in Cardiff, Wales, to facilitate training sessions and prepare for their upcoming friendly match against Wales on June 2, 2026.
When and where will the Black Stars play their group stage matches?
Ghana has been placed into Group L and will face a challenging schedule across three different American and Canadian cities. The team aims to make a strong impact during their campaign, which officially begins in mid-June.
- The opening match is scheduled against Panama on June 17, 2026, in Toronto.
- The team will then travel to Boston to compete against England on June 23, 2026.
- The group stage concludes with a match against Croatia on June 27, 2026, in Philadelphia.
Minister Adams has emphasized that the nation is ready on all fronts for the demands of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He expressed significant confidence in the team’s preparation and highlighted the importance of national unity during this time.
The Minister has publicly urged all Ghanaians to rally behind the Black Stars and provide the team with the necessary spirit and morale. With official financial packages finalized and training camps in progress, the focus now shifts entirely to the teamโs performance on the pitch.
