The financial town is currently buzzing with plenty of hot talk after Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr Johnson Asiama, dropped a major confirmation.
He revealed to the public that he actually stepped down from the Board of Directors of the Ghana Gold Board, known widely as GoldBod, about five months ago. Eii, people have been talking up and down, trying to connect wires that do not even match regarding central bank ties with GoldBod.
Dr Asiama made it clear that he no longer steps foot into any GoldBod board meetings because his schedule is already choke-full. According to him, the laws establishing the arrangement only state that the Bank of Ghana must maintain a representative on that specific board. He emphasized logically that the statute does not explicitly force the sitting Governor to carry himself personally to every single meeting.
This timely clarification helps kill off unnecessary rumors about friction or hidden confusion between these two powerful state institutions. Ghanaians love transparency, and when high-ievel public officers speak plain truth, it reduces plenty of roadside speculation. After all, managing the nation’s currency and inflation wahala is already heavy work for one office holder.
The central bank remains legally connected to the gold board through designated officers rather than the Governor himself sitting at the helm. Stakeholders can now rest easy knowing that institutional collaboration continues smoothly without personal seat-warming conflicts. Sometimes, stepping back to let the law work the way it was written is the best corporate governance strategy ever.
