The Tamale Gender Circuit Court has sentenced a 37-year-old farmer, Tibini Atta, to 10 years in prison for defiling an 11-year-old girl. The tragic incident took place at Digangan, a quiet farming community located within the Kpandai District of the Northern Region.
The presiding judge convicted and sentenced the convict after he pled guilty to the charge of defilement upon his court arraignment. Swift police action and quick medical intervention ensured justice was served without delay.
According to detailed police reports, the 11-year-old victim had accompanied Tibini Atta to a local farm to assist him with harvesting yams. While returning home from the farm, the convict took advantage of the isolated path and forcibly committed the unlawful act.
The physical assault left the young child with severe bodily injuries requiring urgent clinical care. The victim’s uncle, a 25-year-old farmer named Desmond Mulache, reported the crime to the Kpandai Police Station around 2:55 p.m.
Following the initial police report, officers immediately rushed the young victim to the Kpandai District Hospital for emergency clinical evaluation. Attending nurses and medical staff provided primary care to stabilize the traumatized child.
Due to the deep severity of her injuries, medical officers concluded that the child required advanced specialist treatment. The hospital management subsequently referred her to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for full medical care and psychological monitoring.
Police investigators moved swiftly to track down and arrest Tibini Atta in the Digangan community. The Northern Regional Police Command processed the suspect and presented him before the Tamale Gender Circuit Court.
When prosecutors read the formal charge of defilement to the accused person, Atta entered a direct guilty plea. The presiding judge handed down the mandatory 10-year prison sentence, sending him straight to serve his term.
Officers from the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Tamale visited the victim at the hospital to assess her recovery. Medical personnel assured the police team that the child is responding positively to clinical treatment.
Police authorities reiterated their commitment to protecting children and ensuring swift prosecution of sexual violence offenders across the region. Community members in Kpandai praised the rapid police response and court verdict as a strong warning to child abusers.
This heartbreaking case reminds us all that protecting innocent children requires total vigilance from parents, traditional authorities, and neighbours. Reporting suspicious activities immediately to DOVVSU or local police stations saves young lives and prevents predatory individuals from walking free.
