A fatal road traffic crash on the Kpetoe-Sarakope stretch of the Accra-Aflao Highway has claimed two lives. The tragedy occurred when a commercial Hyundai H100 mini-bus collided with a Ford tractor.
Emergency responders from the Kpetoe Fire Station rushed to the scene to evacuate victims trapped in the wreckage. Despite quick rescue efforts, medical officials confirmed a male and female passenger dead at the hospital.
The Ghana National Fire Service received an urgent distress call reporting a severe crash along the Kpetoe-Sarakope corridor. Firefighters from the local station mobilized immediately to secure the crash area and rescue trapped passengers.
The Hyundai H100 bus was carrying twelve passengers, while two individuals were traveling in the agricultural tractor. Officers successfully extracted all fourteen occupants from the twisted metal and handed them over to paramedics.
The National Ambulance Service and the Ghana Police Service transported all surviving victims to the Ho Teaching Hospital. Doctors and nurses worked tirelessly to stabilize the injured passengers admitted with varying degrees of trauma.
Regrettably, hospital officials pronounced one adult male and one adult female dead shortly after arrival. Police personnel have deposited their remains at the hospital morgue for identification and autopsy procedures.
In a formal statement released after the rescue, Volta Regional Fire Service officials appealed to drivers for discipline. Authorities highlighted reckless overtaking and excessive speeding as primary causes of avoidable highway collisions.
The Accra-Aflao Highway remains a heavily traveled international corridor connecting Ghana to neighboring West African states. Transport operators and commercial drivers must exercise extreme caution to protect passenger lives and prevent further loss on our roads.
Ghana Police Service officers from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department have initiated full investigations. Investigators are examining mechanical factors, visibility levels, and driver actions leading up to the impact.
Local community members near Sarakope have expressed sadness over the frequent crashes along this highway stretch. Commuters continue calling for increased police patrols and speed checks to keep motorists safe across Volta Region corridors.
Road safety experts continue advocating for strict mechanical inspections on non-standard road vehicles like tractors. Operating heavy agricultural equipment on high-speed commercial highways during peak hours presents significant hazards to fast-moving buses.
Every driver setting foot on our highways bears a responsibility toward passenger well-being. Exercising patience, obeying speed limits, and respecting basic traffic laws remain essential steps to stopping tragic highway incidents.
