Manchester United’s highly rated 16-year-old forward JJ Gabriel has reportedly decided to join Real Madrid, with negotiations over his proposed move to the Spanish giants nearing completion.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Gabriel’s representatives have informed clubs interested in signing the youngster that he wants to continue his career at Real Madrid.
The development places the Spanish club ahead of other European sides, including Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, which had been linked with the teenager.
Romano reports that the final terms of the agreement are being settled, with an official confirmation expected once the remaining details have been completed.
Real Madrid emerge as Gabriel’s preferred destination
Real Madrid are understood to have impressed Gabriel and his representatives with their proposed development plan.
The club reportedly presented a pathway that could see him progress through its academy and Castilla team before eventually competing for a place in the senior squad.
The opportunity to develop within Real Madrid’s football structure is believed to have played an important role in his decision.
Manchester United future remains unresolved
Gabriel requested to leave Manchester United in September and has not returned to training with the club since.
He remains registered with United, although reports indicate that Real Madrid are targeting a move in January 2027.
The teenager attracted significant attention during his time at United. He scored a hat-trick on his UEFA Youth League debut and was also involved with the club’s senior squad during pre-season.
However, the proposed transfer is not yet officially complete. Reports indicate that there has been no formal club-to-club agreement announced, and Manchester United could still explore its options regarding compensation and the circumstances surrounding his departure.
If completed, the move would represent a significant addition to Real Madrid’s youth development project and another major step in the young forward’s promising career.
For now, attention is on the final negotiations and the official confirmation of the deal.
