Former Minister of Power, Dr Kwabena Donkor, has broken his silence over allegations linking him to a one million dollar bribery scandal involving former investment banker Asante Kwaku Berko.
In a formal legal statement issued on Monday, August 10, 2026, through his counsel KT Hammond at Cavendish Chambers, the former minister emphatically denied demanding or receiving any funds.
His lawyers clarified that Dr Donkor has never set eyes on Asante Berko, nor has he ever discussed personal benefits or authorized anyone to seek payments on his behalf.
The legal team acknowledged that Dr Donkor served as Power Minister during the severe power crisis, known locally as Dumsor, when the government negotiated an emergency power deal with Aksa Energy.
As part of routine pre-shipment checks, a technical team inspected power generation equipment in Istanbul, Turkey, but Dr Donkor had no personal involvement in financial exchanges.
His lawyers stressed that any individual who demanded money using the former minister’s name acted strictly for their own private gain without his knowledge.
They also emphasized that no direct evidence presented during the United States court proceedings linked Dr Donkor to any corrupt demands or illegal benefits.
Cavendish Chambers concluded the statement with a strong warning, stating that any publication attempting to damage Dr Donkor’s reputation will face immediate legal action.
